Preparing for O-Bon
O-bon is coming this week and my families are preparing for the event. Since I can't really explain what O-bon is, I'm copy&pasting from Wikipedia-- "Obon or just Bon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the departed (deceased) spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves, and when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars."-- oh, right, I can't describe it any better than this.

Anyway, O-bon this year is to be a big family reunion as this will be the first O-bon of my grandmother who died last year. The alter was set this weekend and it's pretty impressive.

Hmm, very much of O-bon taste, although my granny herself was just modest, reserved kind of person as many of Meiji-era born are, so I think she might rather feel embarrassed by this much decorative alter when revisiting us, haha.

昨日は地元の花火大会でした。オリンピック見てて例年より見に行くの遅くなったけど、やっぱ花火はいいですね。というか花火見ながら食べるアイスが最高!
